Coco peat or coir fibre pith is produced when coconut husks are processed for the extraction of coir fibres. Maha Lakshmi Coir’s Coco peat, known commonly by the name of MLC Cocopeat, is a multi-purpose soil conditioner and a natural growing medium. It can absorb and hold water up to 8 – 10 times it's own weight.
MLC Cocopeat is usually shipped in the form of compressed bales, brickettes, growbags and disks. MLC Cocopeat can be expanded and aerated by the addition of water. A single kilogram of MLC cocopeat will expand to 15 litres of moist cocopeat. This unique capacity assures that MLC coco peat will hold and release nutrients to the plants over extended period without re-watering.
MLC Cocopeat is totally eco friendly and is widely acceptable as a substitute to peat moss which is mined. The use of MLC Cocopeat in lieu of peat moss not only ensures better horticulture results but also reduces the destruction of bogs and wet lands. As a soil re-conditioner, MLC cocopeat helps to regain the vigour of dead soil and can outperform most of the popular re-conditioners like peat moss and sphagnum moss.
